JOY

This diptych was put together in the honor of pure joy, the spiritual state of well being.

In these two images, joy is not just a moment, but it’s something that moves across time and bodies.

I took the first image of my grandmother the moment I saw her cleaning the chimney. I looked at her, and she was covered in ashes. I started laughing, and she looked at me and started laughing with me.

The second picture was taken in the local Christmas market on a carousel. A little boy was joyfully riding the carousel horse.

Together, they suggest that joy is not fixed. It appears in different stages of life, and remains with us as nostalgia.
